Chinook Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing precision medicines for kidney diseases. Chinook’s product candidates are being investigated in rare, severe chronic kidney disorders with opportunities for well-defined clinical pathways. Chinook’s lead program is atrasentan, a phase 3 endothelin receptor antagonist for the treatment of IgA nephropathy and other proteinuric glomerular diseases. BION-1301, an anti-APRIL monoclonal antibody is being evaluated in a phase 1/2 trial for IgA nephropathy. In addition, Chinook is advancing CHK-336, an oral small molecule LDHA inhibitor for the treatment of primary hyperoxaluria, as well as research programs for other rare, severe chronic kidney diseases.


Chinook is building its pipeline by leveraging insights in kidney single cell RNA sequencing, human-derived organoids, and new translational models, to discover and develop therapeutics with differentiating mechanisms of action against key kidney disease pathways. Chinook is looking for a high-performing Associate Director Program Management to lead cross-functional Global Product Team (GPT) operations for a late-stage development program. This position will partner with the Program Team Leader to successfully shape and execute drug development strategies, identify and resolve issues, and drive optimal decision-making to advance the product to improve the lives of people living with kidney disease. This position reports to the Head of Program and Alliance Management and can be located near any of Chinook’s operating centers in Vancouver BC, Seattle WA, Oakland, CA or remotely based in the US.



Responsibilities include:


  • Lead the operations of a pre-clinical and early stage Global Product Team (GPT) working in close partnership with Program Team Leader and functional team members
  • Partner with the Program Team Leader (PTL) to create a positive team environment that encourages cross-functional input, accountability, and robust analysis of options
  • Partner with the PTL to facilitate efficient and effective GPT meetings; responsible for sending timely agendas and minutes
  • Act as an integrator within the GPT; highlight interdependencies and downstream impacts of strategic decisions
  • Serving as a GPT facilitator to help teams prepare for key interactions with internal governance, executive leadership, and regulatory agencies
  • Develop and maintain high quality, cross-functional timelines with input from functional leads that align with program strategy. Visualize timelines in succinct and impactful ways to support communication, scenario planning and decision-making
  • Drive proactive identification of risks; facilitate development and implementation of mitigation and contingency plans
  • Partner with the PTL to drive effective decision-making and governance interactions by framing issues, identifying risks and developing slides
  • Ensures all decisions are assessed as to their impacts and communicated to stakeholders in a transparent and timely manner
  • Contribute to the establishment of PM best practices, change management initiatives and drive growth of the Chinook Program Management function 


Education, Experience, and Skills:


  • Bachelor's Degree in biomedical sciences, business or other discipline related to drug development required. Advanced degree (MS, MBA, MPH, Ph.D.) highly desirable
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry including cross-functional, drug development program management experience
  • Strong understanding of drug development and how various functions contribute to product strategy and execution
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and skilled at building processes and tools from scratch
  • Ability to influence teams and stakeholders without formal authority
  • Ability to resolve complex problems and manage difficult stakeholder situations
  • Strong communicator able to integrate and summarize information to effectively tailor messages to various audiences, including senior leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate in a cross-functional environment with geographically distributed team members
  • Proficiency with MS Office and timeline software (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet) required
