Position:

 

Chinook Therapeutics is seeking an energetic and collaborative Laboratory Operations Assistant to support the scientific team at Chinook’s Vancouver site.  The Lab Operations Assistant will report to the Vancouver site head and will be responsible for providing lab maintenance support to the chemistry, biology, DMPK and pharmacology labs.  In addition, the candidate will assist the admin and accounting teams with shipping and receiving of lab supplies.

 

We are looking for someone who is energetic, proactive, can multi-task and who would enjoy the stimulating atmosphere of an innovative research organization.

 

 Responsibilities include:

 

  • Maintain inventory levels for all laboratory supplies
  • Assist scientists with organization of lab supplies and lab maintenance
  • Coordination of lab equipment services (with external service providers)
  • Organizing occupational health & safety training
  • Assist with lab upgrades
  • Execute on facility-related requests, including preparation of buffers, maintaining solvents for instruments, liquid nitrogen fills for the NMR and cell dewar, washing of lab glassware and registering chemical reagents to the database
  • Assist admin in answering the shipping phone and door, preparing and unpacking shipments, matching packing slips with POs and obtaining new licenses for the labs
  • Maintain a safe lab environment and work within defined safe laboratory practices
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive team-focused company culture

 

Education, Experience, and Skills:

 

  • College diploma with scientific background preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant work experience supporting lab and/or facilities activities, preferably in a life sciences environment
  • Basic knowledge of chemicals and chemical safety required
  • Basic understanding of laboratory equipment, procedures and/or supplies is an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Sound judgment and well-organized to work autonomously to maintain the labs
  • Dependable, taking pride and ownership in work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills   
  • Adaptable, proactive and seeks out ways to support our team
